PRESIDENT FRANS KUIPERS
There are fifty-one members involved in arranging, coordinating and expecting the many great activities sponsored by the BNC. If you like having great friends and good friendships, then get involved. Bake something, or find a good bakery and tell them you baked it (Hey, I do it all the time!) Join in the fun! You don’t have to do a lot to help out. It can even be therapeutic. (Join the travel committee and follow Ron’s conversation for ten minutes and you will have really exercised those brain cells. Alzheimer’s? No worries. :)
Speaking of fun, we had a great time in the rain at the picnic. Fifty-plus members had lunch in a Volkswagen bus. You really get to know people when you’re that close. I think we set a Guinness Book record. And how about those Bucks! (You see, to really know what happened you had to be there).
OK, so get out those calendars and mark them up with Wine Tasting, Bowling, Cocktails for Ten, Lunch (Boundary House, mmmmm… that’s in my best Bart Simpson impression) and South Pacific.
Also, all you single women out there, Cathy Richard (457-5381) and her singles group are just getting started, now is the time to join your friends.

WINE TASTINGS
October 30 is the date of the kick-off for one of our clubs most popular activities. “Wine Tasting” is a great way to learn about the fascinating world of wine, while meeting with old and new friends to share a giggle or two.
Reasonably priced wines and the foods they complement will be on the menu as we sample 4 red and 4 white wines that are centered on a particular theme or geographic area.
On Friday October 30th we will be sampling wines from the Beaujolais region of France. On Friday December 11th the sampled wines will be a selection of Italian wines appropriate for holiday meals and festivities. Both evenings will start at 7pm when a dozen or so members gather at the home of a volunteer host. We are always looking for hosts. Hosting is easy because the Committee shows up with all the wine and food plus (new this year) a committee member to lead the discussion.
The dates are:
Friday, October 30th
(Cut off for sign up or cancellation is Wednesday, Oct. 21st)
Friday, December 11th (Delayed by Thanksgiving)
(Cut off for sign up or cancellation is Wednesday 12/2nd)
Friday, January 29th
(Cut off for sign up or cancellation is Wednesday 1/20th)
Friday, February 26th
Friday, March 26th
Friday, April 30th
The cost is $15 per person.
Sign up at the monthly meeting or mail your check (payable to BNC) to Bill and Cyn Young, 3180 Wexford Way, Southport, 28461. Phone: (908)797-8563. Please provide your name(s), date desired, e-mail, and phone number. We will e-mail you with the name of your host and directions to their house. Any questions contact: Corolyn Foster 910-253-3515 (cclark@ec.rr.com), or John McGorry 910-269-4031 (jmcgorry@aol.com).

DonCunningham Newsletter Editor

Last month your editor received a little flack from our esteemed El President, Frans, about the photo that was used to illustrate his Remarks column that leads off each issue of our Newsletter. Seems he wanted a little more hair on the top. Not able to obtain the picture of Frans and his dreadlocks (which according to a reliable source he wore at Woodstock) we did the best with what we had at hand. Never-the-less, he is the honcho, the big cheese, the boss, and of course we aim to please and hope y’all will join in as we have a little fun at the October (it is Halloween after all) meeting and give Frans the head of hair he so richly deserves and sorely misses. If you’d like to practice ahead of time, get out your favorite pen or pencil and see what you can do with the following.
